Golf wasn't too bad yesterday. I shot a 114. Yesterday I played the entire 18 holes with my headphones on listening to music. It really helped me not lose my mojo, although I didn't do all that well, I never got grouchy, or annoyed with DH's bitching about his game. I couldn't hear him!
I ran across the motherload of beautiful weeds on the 10th hole. Giant thistles are blooming now. I know these plants are a pain in the butt, err legs, hands etc, when you touch them, but seriously, the buds and blooms are absolutely gorgeous! Take a peek.

and finally, one that has gone to seed.
I got the inspiration to take a waterfall picture from one of my flickr contacts.

I've always called this spot "the kodak shot". DH and I have done a lot of posing by this itty bitty waterfall. Not yesterday though. Just a quick snap.
And thats about it. For now. I've got a busy day ahead. Company at 5 for a cookout, I am picking up Nikki at 10 to work at the house. They bought a fixer upper, and she is just overwhelmed with the amount of work to do. DH, SS and I went over for about 3 hours yesterday and really knocked off a lot of the things that needed to be done. The kids are doing wall prep now, they've taken the wallpaper down (the entire house was papered in 1970's paper), spackeled and sanded most of the walls and have started to prime the walls. Yesterday, DH, SS and I tore up more carpet, removed staples from the subfloor, cleaned up all the paint chips on the floor from sanding..what a pain. I told Nick if he ever buys another house that needs so much work I would kick his ass. I can't blame Nik for being so overwhelmed. When it is just the 2 of them working on it, it must seem like it is going so slow.
So anyway, we are going to work from 10-2. Then rush home to shower, and prepare for the cookout. Did I mention that I haven't shopped yet?

Today I spent chasing big birds. On the way home from Walmart, I saw a huge bird on the side of the road. I pulled over, checked for traffic did a U'y, and headed back to find him. There he was with the road kill of the day, whiched looked like a racoon, but as soon as I stopped he took off. I turned around again to head in my original direction, without a picture. Grr. I decided to take off on a hunt for late autumn reflection pictures.
This is really a pretty view, but it was the wrong time of the day to shoot the picture, I was shooting right into the sun. The problem was, it is private property, so I didn't dare venture around the other side of the lake.
I saw smoke puffing up in the distance, so I took off to figure out what was burning, it was just the asphalt plant making black goo. On the way there, I saw another huge bird, pulled over, jumped out of the car and started clicking. I should have had the 300mm lens, but I didn't, had the trusty all purpose 18-200mm attached, and this was as good as I could get. It is a pretty close crop, but if I bring it in any further, it starts getting funky looking. Gina? What is this? :))
It was just one disappointment after another on today's download, but I did end up with one shot that I really liked.
The weeping willow trees are about the only trees left with any leaves on them, and they are yellowing rapidly. Next big blow we have through here they will be naked too.
My weekend was good. We went to a wedding Saturday night, it was a good time. All the guys DH golfs with in the Men's League were there, and they never fail to entertain. We were friends of the groom, and I don't believe I had ever met the bride before Saturday night. She grabbed my heart though, her mother was in a wheel chair, it was pretty obvious that she had had a stroke. When we first saw her, she was crying and someone told us she was so happy to just get out of the nursing home. The bride took her mom out onto the dance floor, wheel chair and all, and danced with her. Michael turned to me and said "look hon, she's dancing with her mom" and I burst out in tears. Michael told me "Don't cry honey, you aren't in a wheel chair and sprung from a nursing home". Thank goodness that is true! It was so touching though. Bless her heart for getting her Mom out there to join the dance.
We left the reception about 8:30 and headed over to Nik and Nick's for a bit. I got some shih tzu schmoozing from their puppies, and good company from daughter and SIL. We decided to go to the MPM on Wednesday, but now it looks like the Titan Arum is dying, it collapsed yesterday, and they don't think it will bloom. It was supposed to bloom on Tuesday but it is improbable now. Here is a link for a live webcam view of it if you are interested. It doesn't look very impressive now, all floppy.
Here is my first self portrait with the D300, I had to build up strength in my arms to hold it out! Yours truly trimmed the bangs,t hats why they look so dorky. haha.
Yesterday we went to Jo and Jon's to watch the Packers lose to the Vikings, but it was a great afternoon. We finished it off with dinner at the Boneyard where I had one of the best burgers I've had in a while.
I don't really have much more to write about today. I am excited that soon my Mom and Dad and brother and his family and Jeremy and Kelly too! are going to be here for Thanksgiving. Of course I am procrastinating everything about Thanksgiving, it is really to early to shop now.
